Raiffeisen advises Austrian Post AG in acquisition of shares in Turkish Aras Kargo

Vienna/Istanbul – Österreichische Post AG (Austrian Post), one of the leading logistics and postal services provider in Austria entered the Turkish parcel delivery market by acquiring a 25 per cent stake in the Turkish Aras Kargo Yurtiçi Yurtdışı Taşımacılık A.Ş. (Aras Kargo), a pioneer in the parcel delivery industry in Turkey. The Austrian investment bank Raiffeisen Centrobank along with its Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) experts from Raiffeisen Investment Turkey acted as exclusive buy-side advisor to Austrian Post.

For Henning von Stechow, Head of M&A of RCB, and Gokce Kabatepe, Head of Raiffeisen Investment Turkey, this cross-border transaction certainly highlights the bank’s remarkable combination of first class sector expertise with local know-how. “This deal is not only of strategic importance for the parcel delivery industry in both countries, Turkey and Austria, but also means a milestone transaction for us in the fields of express delivery services in our core region Central Eastern Europe and Turkey”, the investment bankers explain.

With annual revenue of EUR 2.4bn, Austrian Post is the leading logistics and postal services provider in Austria. Its main business activities include the transport and delivery of letters, direct mail items, print media and parcels. It operates a branch network consisting of more than 1,900 own or third-party operated postal service points, making it one of the largest private customer networks in Austria, offering high-quality postal, banking and telecommunications products and services to its customers. Moreover, Austrian Post is also represented by subsidiaries in other European markets (Germany, Slovakia, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria), particularly in the parcel and logistics segment as well as in unaddressed direct mail items.

Founded in Istanbul in 1979, Aras Kargo is one of the leading parcel delivery service providers in Turkey. Commanding one of Turkey’s most widespread delivery networks with a market share of 25 per cent, Aras Kargo has 28 cargo transfer centers, 800 branches, as well as 5.400 employees and a fleet comprised of 2,600 vehicles. The company generated in 2012 an annual revenue of approximately EUR 250m by delivering about 46m parcels and 32m documents per year.
