RCB: Study on the performance of certificates in Austria from 2009 to 2013

Raiffeisen Centrobank carried out the first study on the performance of certificates in Austria and examined the performance of RCB Guarantee and Bonus Certificates compared to a direct investment into the underlyings, i.e. indices, shares and commodities.

Subject of the study were 89 certificates in subscription since 2009 and their performance from 2009 to 2013.

Outstanding performance at reduced risk

The study clearly shows that the major part of the products involves less risk and has clearly outperformed the underlying! Guarantee Certificates come off with an average yield of 3.16 per cent p.a., whereas the underlyings record a profit of merely 1.55 per cent p.a. Bonus Certificates show a similar picture. In the period under review, Bonus Certificates come up with a yield of 8.81 per cent p.a., whereas the underlyings generate solely 6.25 per cent profit p.a.

Certificates have clearly proved to create added value for investors and, in addition to standard investment instruments, they should become an integral part of every portfolio.
