Sustainable investments have turned from a niche product into an established trend and are enjoying increasing popularity among investors. In their investment approach, many investors seek out investments for ecological, social and governance-related steering effects.
In Austria, sustainability has also become a prime motivation when choosing an investment. According to the annual report of Forum Nachhaltige Geldanlagen (FNG,) assets invested for sustainability criteria reached an all-time high of EUR 30.1 billion in 2019, gaining roughly 38% compared to the previous year.
As a pioneer in the structured products segment Raiffeisen Centrobank recognised this trend at a very early stage and issued sustainability index certificates already in 2005. In 2014, a special sustainability certificates series was launched, which offered capital protection certificates on various STOXX® ESG-based indices making sustainability an easy-to-access investment with capital protection. The underlying indices are calculated by the renowned index company STOXX® Ltd. and mirror the performance of leading companies which meet the strict ESG criteria (Ecologic, Social, Governance) in their business policies.
